WORLD'S TOP 5 MOST EXPENSIVE DESSERTS at 06:43

We've posted the world's most expensive cupcakes and for this particular entry, we would post the world's top 5 most expensive desserts. Still think that you're rich? Well, take a look on these very expensive desserts! Hey, everyone needs their own luxury, right?

THE FORTRESS STILT FISHERMAN INDULGANCE – US$14,500

Toys on a dish? No, it's not. It is actually a dessert consisting of gold leaf and Irish cream which makes up an Italian cassata. This fancy looking dessert is made available in Wine3 restaurant in The Fortress, a Sri Lankan luxury hotel. What are the other things served with it? A mango, pomegranate compote, a champagne sabayon enlighten and a chocolate sculpture of a stilt fisherman sitting over an 80-carat aquamarine.

FROZEN HAUTE CHOCOLATE – US$25,000

Listen up dear wealthy chocoholics, this fabulous sundae is produced by a joint venture between Serendipity 3 and jeweler Euphoria New York. It has 28 cocoas, which half of them are among the world's most expensive. That is not the only thing that makes this sundae very expensive, it also consists five grams of 23k gold. It is served with a gold bracelet and a diamond around the base with edible gold in a goblet lining on top.

PLATINUM CAKE – US$130,000

This cake was created by a Japanese pastry chef Nobue Ikara and he dedicated this not so cheap cake to famous Japanese women like Rinko Kikuchi and Chie Kumawaza. With this cake, he hopes more women would wear platinum jewelry. You can see from the picture above that this cake is sparkling from platinum necklaces, pins, pendants and, for the good of our teeth, edible platinum flakes.

STRAWBERRIES ARNAUD – US$1.4 MILLION

Some of you might think that the dessert above is suitable for Valentine's Day. For you rich people, you can find them at Arnaud’s in the French Quart of New Orleans. The strawberries were marinated in the finest port. These darling desserts were served with mint, cream and a 4.7 carat pink diamond ring once owned by English financier Sir Ernest Cassel.

DIAMOND FRUITCAKE – US$1.65 MILLION

Looks like a box, doesn't it? It's actually a fruitcake. Obviously, not an ordinary fruitcake. Why? It is decorated with 223 diamonds. Apparently, that was the only thing that was told. Perhaps, the other ingredients are also the world's most expensive. Two of the world's most expensive desserts were created by a Japanese pastry chef, including this fascinating cake sold on Christmas 2005. The pastry chef had said that it took him six months for this talented chef to conceptualise and another month to produce it.

After scrolling through this very last entry, I know that the world has gone crazy or at least the people are as they're trying to include so very expensive things in our desserts. You might think, "It's just desserts. Why do they have to include all these things? It's useless anyway, it'll come out eventually after they are being digested." It's the way of life nowadays, luxury is necessary for those who really believes in it.

A Whoopie Pie at 03:43

A whoopie pie is like a sandwich, but made of two soft cookies with a fluffy white filling. Traditional whoopies pies are made with vegetable shortening, not butter. The most commonly made whoopie pie is chocolate.

Whoopie Pies are the latest cupcakes nowadays. This recipe Whoopie Pie is filled with marshmallow and bakes in just 10 minutes. The marshmallow-soft icing give this cake an old-fashioned character.

Some examples of Whoopie Pies:

Red Velvet Cupcakes with the cream cheese frosting on top and some pecans
This whoopie pie recipe is a feminine twist on traditional whoopie pies, perfect for a little girl's birthday party!

Red Velvet Whoopie Pie

The Whoopie Pie was created in Maine back in the 1920s: it shaped like a giant, squishy Oreo cookie, it has two discs of chocolate cake with a creamy-sweet filling. One of the most popular desserts at Becky's Diner in Portland, Maine, is a cake she makes inspired by the Whoopie pie, frosted with a low-cost icing.

Whoopie pie comes from when Amish women in America put them in lunchboxes for the farmers, who would shout 'whoopie' if they found one in their box. A classic whoopie pie recipe made with cocoa (pie pictured on the above) for a delicious chocolate whoopie pie.

History of Whoopie Pies

Whoopie pies are considered a New England phenomenon, they are one of Maine's best known and most loved comfort foods. In Maine, these treats are more like a cake than a pie or a cookie, as they are very generously sized (about hamburger size).

The Whoopie Pies are so huge that you'll want to share one with a friend. A big glass of milk is needed when eating a whoopie pie.

The recipe for whoopie pies has its origins with the Amish and in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. Amish cooking is about old recipes that have fed families for generations, with no trendy or cross-cultural fusions or mixtures. These cake-like whoopie pies were considered a special treat because they were originally made from leftover batter. According to Amish legend, when children would find these treats in their lunch bags, they would shout "Whoopie!" =D

PUDDINGS at 08:20

There are four major ways to prepare delicious puddings namely steamed, baked, boiled and neither cooked nor baked, but rather chilled in the refrigerator.
Steamed puddings: A sweet or savory pudding that is cooked on a rack of boiling water in a covered pot. Steamed pudding can be cooked in many different containers, giving its shape and size. Steamed puddings can take up to 3 hours to cook which is very long but it is worth it if you want it to taste good and flawless. An example of a steamed pudding is Cranberry Steamed Pudding.

Baked puddings: They are first placed on the stove and finish in the oven. Some are just mixed and baked in the oven. An example of a baked pudding which are cooked on the stove and finish in the oven is Rice Pudding. An example of pudding which just needs mixing and baking in the oven is Bread Pudding.

Vanilla Bread Pudding

Boiled puddings: The easiest and quickest to prepare. They are constantly stirred on the stovetop until thickened and can be made in a variety of flavours such as vanilla, chocolate and butterscotch. An example is the famous Butterscotch pudding.

Neither cooked nor baked puddings: Puddings which do not have to go through the hot and burning stages/methods. All you have to do is leave it in the refrigerator to chill and then serve it. Piece of cake. An example of such lucky pudding is a mousse.

Patissier : Hidemi Sugino at 23:39

Little cakes, lined up at the counter with their seductive colours and decorations. Once it's your turn at the counter, you'll have some difficulties in choosing. Why? Because everything looks so good! If you ask me which cake is better, by just looking at it, I'll say, "Everything" . So, where is this place I'm talking about and who is behind this such talent?

It is Hidemi Sugino. He won the 1991 World Baking Competition and has only one shop located at the Kyobashi Building 1F, 3-6-17, Chuo-ku in Tokyo. I'm not really sure when he opened his patisserie but it was said that it was opened since 1973, like what the picture below shows.

Customers who wanted to buy cakes from the patissier will need to have a lot of patience. It is because the shop is small that it can only hold about ten people at a time. People have to wait outside while waiting for the customers inside finished eating their cakes except for those who wanted to take the cakes away instead of eating it there. The shop opens at 10 in the morning and half an hour before the shop opens, there are already people waiting outside the shop.
The shop is so famous that when you come in in the afternoon, the cakes are either sold out or there are a few more left. The cakes that are sold are Sous Bois, Pomme d'Eve, Fraisette, La Amethyst, Everest and much more.

Sous Bois
A sponge cake that is topped with raspberry jam and berries. It is said to be a very balanced cake as it contains kirsch bavarois which provides the fat to cut the acidity of the black currant that could be found inside the black currant mousse (the purplish-pink middle part). This cake has an amazing light texture that could melt easily inside your mouth.

Pomme d'Eve
Pomme d'Eve is a cake that is topped with sauteed apples and calvados which gives a nice contrast to the green apple mousse below. At the centre part of the cake, chocolate jaconde is being put in and below it, there is a cinnamon caramel mousse with cognac that gives a bitter taste but a nice caramel flavour. At the bottom part of cake lies the butter free jaconde. Overall, it is a tasty and delicious cake.

Unique and delightful delicious cupcakes at 00:16

cupcakes are moist and tasty cakes, covered with the right amount of fluffy and sweet buttercream. These cupcakes are baked in a paper container shaped like a cup, often with icing on top. Cupcakes are now one of the most popular sweet desserts in the world and there are many bakeries dedicated to cupcakes.

A cupcake uses the same basic ingredients as standard-sized cakes: butter, sugar, eggs and flour. Nearly any recipe is suitable for a layer cake can be used to bake cupcakes. This is because their small size is more efficient for heat conduction and cupcakes bake much faster than layer cakes.

      PECAN PRALINE CHEESECAKE at 08:00

Pecan Praline Cheesecake, a delicious unique cheesecake made from pecan nuts and pralines.

      THE CRUST

1 cup of minced pecans which have been toasted

      3/4 graham of cracker crumbs

1/4 cup of dark brown sugar

1/4 cup of unsalted butter which have been melted

First, preheat the oven to 325 degrees F and grease a 9-inch springform pan. Mix the pecans together with the graham crackers and brown sugar in a small bowl. Pour in the butter and stir to mix them. Press the warm mixture in the prepared pan, packing it evenly around the bottom. Bake about 10 minutes until the crust is set. Allow the crust to cool and raise the temperature of the oven to 350 degrees F.

      THE FILLINGS

      1 pound of cream cheese

      3 eggs

      1/4 cup of granulated sugar

      1/4 cup of chopped pralines

2 teaspoons of minced orang zest

      1/2 cup of sour cream

For the fillings, beat the cream cheese using a mixer in a large bowl until it becomes light and fluffy. After that, add the eggs and sugar. Continue to beat until everything is fixed. Put in the chopped pralines and the orange zest. Pour in the filling into the crust earlier and bake for 55 to 60 minutes(1 hour) until the centre turns firm.

Take the cheesecake out from the oven and let it out for 10 minutes. Raise the oven temperature to 425 degrees F. Spread the sour cream gently over the top of the cheesecake. Bake again for 5 minutes until the sour cream bubbles at the edges of the crust. Cool the cheesecake.

Use a knife to cut in between the cake and the sides of the pan to loosen it. Cover the cake, and put it in the fridge to refrigerate it until it is well chilled. Leave it for 3 to 4 hours.

      THE CARAMEL SAUCE

      2 teaspoons of unsalted butter

1/2 cup of dark brown sugar

      2 tablespoons of water

1/2 to 3/4 cup of milk (warmed)

      1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

For the caramel sauce, melt the butter in a heavy sausepan. Don't forget to add the brown sugar and water. Cook over medium heat, 234 degrees F to 240 degrees F. Remove the pan from the heat, and let the mixture cool a couple of minutes. Stir in the milk. The sauce can be kept warm over a hot water bath. Serve the cheesecake topped with the readily made caramel sauce.
